This character is, my interpretation, of Asto Vidatu who was a Persian god. A demon of death whom no human escaped. He chases and tries to catch the souls of the deceased with a noose when they rise to heaven.
This was a very interesting project filled with lots of challenges as it pertains to materials and overall structure of the bike. It is the first try at doing something as technical and small scale as a motorcycle. This project taught me many lessons about what to do and not to do and I hope next time I do it better. It was a fun project to do and I hope to be able to do other different models.
This is a piece I did that was fairly technical and detailed. Interesting enough, this is one of my first attempts at working with clay rather than wood. It turned out a lot better than expected.
This is a replica of a bronze piece by my favorite artist, James Christensen. I went to meet the artist at the Greenwich Workshop in Connecticut and I asked the gallery for permission to do one of his sculptures for my own instructional purposes. They were very gracious to let me do it but did tell me that I did not need permission as long as I did not sell it. I consider this piece, my best piece so far in wood. One that taught me immensely and therefore I have an emotional connection with it. This one has a very special place in my home and will probably be placed next to me when I die. I hope?
This piece is a replica of a watercolor painting that I did. It was a lot of fun to create a 2D image and then create a 3D image of the same. It is great to be able to see the characters I make in a different dimension.
This piece is another replica of a book character from my favorite artist, James Christensen. I find his characters to be great studies for improving my sculpting because they push me to try the extreme on a rather technical medium such as wood.
The book depicted the character in a side view. The front view was created based on my perception of what the character would look like from the front.
This is another piece that was fairly technical and detailed.
